Chelsea's intention to sign a new striker has made headlines this summer, but the focus now is on finding the right man for the position.

The Premier League club has yet to find a replacement for loaned striker Romelu Lukaku, leaving them with just one striker in academy graduate Armando Broja, who manager Thomas Tuchel believes is incapable of leading his frontline.

Following the lack of reliable strikers in Thomas Tuchel's team, Chelsea have turned their attention to former Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a good fit for their team.

According to reports, the Blues are plotting a move for the Gabonese international player who joined Barcelona last season and could bid for him in the coming days.

Chelsea's decision to pursue Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have surfaced since missing out on former Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona.

With news about their genuine interest in Aubameyang, talkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist has questioned Chelsea's interest in the 33-year-old striker, comparing the situation with Manchester City's Erling Haaland and Liverpool's Darwin Núñez.

"I am not 100% sold on Aubameyang," said Ally McCoist on talkSPORT radio live. "I am comparing him to the forwards that Man City and Liverpool signed.

"I think a centre-forward is a priority for Chelsea, but I don't know; I have a question mark on him."

The arrival of Robert Lewandowski at Barcelona has created fierce competition in Xavi's attacking position, with Aubameyang reduced to a bit-part player. Barcelona are willing to let Aubameyang go this summer as Xavi intends to use Lewandowski as his first-choice striker.

Aubameyang is said to be calm about Chelsea's interest and would not push for a transfer, as he is happy at the Spanish club. Despite that, Chelsea could make an offer to Barcelona for Aubameyang on loan in the coming days, as Thomas Tuchel sees him as a temporary solution to his attacking problems from last season.

Chelsea have also been linked with Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, but Napoli's high asking price for the gifted striker makes a deal unlikely.
