The Premier League club still faces the danger of losing the 37-year-old Portuguese star, who has communicated his desire to depart Old Trafford this summer.

With Ronaldo's future uncertain, Man United have been linked with several strikers across Europe, with Marko Arnautovic the latest name on Erik ten Hag's list.

The Dutch manager has refused to comment on reports that the club are interested in the Austrian international player after their 2-1 defeat against Brighton in their opening Premier League match.

"In this pre-season, maybe 250 players linked with Man United, so that is it, and we have two strikers, and maybe the third one with Rashford, as we considered him as a striker," Ten Hag said after Brighton's game.

Ten Hag started the game against Brighton without a striker, fielding Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, and Jadon Sancho up front, with Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench and Anthony Martial out with a hamstring injury, indicating the need for another forward.

Manchester United have been previously linked with RB Salzburg's gifted striker, Benjamin Šeško, who is said to be valued at £50m, a price seemingly too high for such a young player.

With no indication of a formal bid for Benjamin Šeško, Ten Hag may have turned attention to Marko Arnautovic, who enjoyed spells at Stoke City and West Ham United in the English topflight.

Last season, the 1.92m striker scored 14 league goals in 33 appearances for Bologna in the Italian Serie A, which may have enticed Erik ten Hag, who is looking to bolster his attacking options.

Arnautovic is a good striker with good physicality up front who can put pressure on defenders, and Manchester United will benefit greatly from the 33-year-old's expert knowledge of Premier League football.

With no news of an improved bid for Marko Arnautovic, it is unknown if Manchester United will push further for his signature.
